Johnie Lee George Price

Johnie Lee Price was born 20 Sep1921 in Glencoe, OK, to George Andrew and Memory Ann Montgomery Price. He died 13 Jul 2007 iin Oklahoma City, OK. Price graduated from Ralston High School in 1941 and then joined his father in his sand business. WWII interrupted his education at Oklahoma A&M. He began as a mechanic for the Army Air Corps and retired as a LT Colonel in the US Air Force. He enjoyed his years flying, especially those over the Bearing Straights. He had many duty stations in his 26 years of military service but retired to his home at Shady Hills Ranch outside Carney OK.

On Christmas Day 1947, he married Lola Mae Hunt in Ponca City, OK. Johnie was, like his father before him, a Mason and a member of the Cattleman's Association. He is survived by his wife, Lola, a son, Johnie Price, of Wellston. OK; two daughters, Linda Pruitt of Guthrie, OK and Carolyn Price of Wellston; grandchildren, Kimberly Silvers, Michelle Melton and Michael Price, all of Edmond, OK; great grandchildren, Miles Clutter, Kolby Wilson, Abby Wilson and Eli Gipson, Three sisters, Betty Hibbert, Mary Lou Banks and Ruth Edward

Dent Turner Gaither

Dent Turner Gaither, 87, of Huntersville, NC, died Sunday, 16 Dec 2007 at Huntersville Oak. He was a native of Forsyth County, NC and the son of the late Roger B and Julia Caskey Gaither. On 21 Apr 1943, he married Mena Belle Clark. She passed away in 2005. They were known for theiractivity in and gifts to the children of East Belmont Baptist Church in Belmont, NC.  He served in the US Navy in WWII on the USS New York, the USS Miami, the USS New Mexico, the USS Sargant Bay, the USS Santee and the USS Wisconsinin the followinig zones; European Theatre, Asiatis-Pacific THeatre, the Liberation of the Phillipines as well as the American Area, being decorated for each area of operations. He was a member of the Gaston County WWII Last Man's Club.

Dent is survived by his son, Dr Clark (Denise) Gaither of Goldsboro, NC; daughter Elaine Gaither (Steve) Mullis of Huntersville, NC; brother Ross Gaither of Camerton, NC; Sisters Merle Costner of  Gastonia, Louise Ross of Texas; grandchild Paige Coouper of Savanah, GA; great grandchildren Hunter and Jordyn Mullis of Rock Hill, SC, Kari, Emily, Matthew and Travis Mullis, all of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Mena Bella Clark Gaither and sister Aileen Ellington.

Helen Frances Page Gaither

Helen Gaither, 89, died 27 August 2007 after a brief period of declining health. A native of Raleigh, NC, Helen was born 23 Feb 1918 to Benjamin Franklin Page and Bertha Coffin Page. She was predeceased by her parents, husband of 61 years, John Burgess Gaither, and a sister, Elizabeth Moring Page Taylor. Helen attended St Mary's Junior College and graduated from Womens College (now UNC-G) with a BA in Primary Education. She was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, the North Ridge Home and Garden Club, the Col. Polk Chapter of the DAR, and a 50 year member of the Women's Club of Raleigh.

Helen is survived by sons, J B (Karen) Gaither, JR., William Wiley (Robin) Gaither, both of Raleigh; daughters, Betty Page Gaither Halter of Wilson, Margaret Gaither (Roger) DeVore of Longwood, FL. MAry Gaither (Roger) Roution of Raleigh; grandson Benjamin William Halter of East St Louis, IL. granddaughter, Kelly Gaither Gholson, Mary Christina Roution, Elizabeth Gaither Roution and Barbara Page Roution of Raleigh. The burial was private and held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC

Janet Williams

Janet Williams, 51,died unexpectedly Monday, 30 July 2007 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, NC. She was born 19 Dec 1955 in Statesville, NC to Richard Carter Williams and Ruth Elam Williams. Ms. Williams made her home, affectionately called her "Apartment", at the United Methodist Agency for the Retarded(UMAR) group home in Statesville since 1990. Janet will be remembered as a sweet and caring person, who loved everyone with whom she came in contact.

She was predeceased by her father in 1994 and a sister, Brenda Williams Josey in 1994. Janet is survived by her mother; two sisters, Linda Williams Knox of Clemmons, NC and Marie Williams (Hugh) Steele of Winston Salem, NC; two brothers, Richard Hiram Williams of Statesville and David Coite (Debbie) Williams of Winston Salem, NC; a brother-in-law John Alan Josey of Statesville and several neices and nephews. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC.

Arden A Gaither

Arden Gaither, 85, of Alexanderia, IN, died 16 Aug 2007, at the Alexanderia Care Center. He was born 17 Jan 1922 in Alexanderia, son of Robert W and Marie Etsler Gaither. A graduate of Alexanderia High School, he served with the US Navy in WWII.  He was retired from Delco Remy after 36 years of employment. He was associated with the North Anderson Church of God and enjoyed square dancing and crafts.

Survivors include grandson Andy (Terri) Ertle of Alexanderia, granddaughter Amy (Gene) Wood of Arcadia, three great grandchildren; a sister, Anita (Dick) Daugherty; brother Willis (Mae) Gaither; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Grace (Newcomb) Gaither, his parents, a son Ted Gaither, daughter, Peggie Gaither Ertle; brothers, Lloyd and Maurice Gaither.

Richard L Ertle

Dick Ertle, 65, of Alexanderia, IN, died unexpectedly 11 June 2007 at his residence. He was born 18 Mar 1941, in Muncie to Wayne L and Nora Haney Ertle. A graduate of Muncie Central High Schol, he became a toolmaker's apprentice, later earning a bachlors and masters degree from Ball State University and a Doctoral Degree in Industrial Technology in 1991 also from Ball State. Dick retired from Delco Remy, formerly of Anderson, in 2005 after 29 years of employment. He then taught industrial technology at Ball State. he was a member of the North Anderson Church of God.

Dick is survived by daughter Amy (Gene) Wood of Arcadia; son Andy (Terri) Ertle of Anderson; three grandchildren, brother Wayne Merrill of Muncie; sisters, Janet Ertle and Wilma Ertle; father-in-law, Arden Gaither of Alexanderia, several nieces,nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Peggie Gaither Ertle, who died 23 Mar 2006, a grandson, CJ Ertle, mother-in-law, Grace Gaither; and brother-in-law, Ted Gaither.

James Ray Gaither, Sr.

Jim Gaither, 71, of 5147 Elder Ave, Charlotte, NC, died 5 Jun 2007 at his residence. He was born 26 May 1936 in Iredell County, NC, to Marvin Fredrick and Margaret Morrison Gaither. He was a US Army veteran and retired from Southeastern Exterminating. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Watson Gaither, a sister, Betty Gaither Putnam, and a brother, Marvin Fredrick Gaither, Jr.. Jim is survived by two daughters, Sharon (John) Lyons of Albemarle, NC and Mary (Steve) McKellop of Denver, NC; two sons, James Ray Gaither, Jr of Buffalo, NY and Jeffrey M Gaither of Gastonia, NC, three grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Gaither of Durham, NC and a brother, Joe Walker Gaither of Huntersville and Statesville.

Jacob Harrison Crawford

Jacob Crawford, 82, of Williston, Fayette County, TN, died 14 Mar 2007 at his ancestral home, Crawford Place, in Williston. Mr Crawford was born to William C and Kathleen Gaither Crawford, early residents of the area. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and a veteran of WWII in the US Navy. He was married in 1955 to the former Anne Burnett who died in 2004 and he later married Elizabeth Lynn who survives. A multi-talented person with many interest, he was the retired owner of Crawford Ford Motor Company, engineer, airplane pilot, inventor, and accomplished musician, playing several instruments. He is survived by his wife and step children, a sister, Estelle Mattox of Verona, MS, and a sister-in-law, Ruby C Crawford.

John Milton Nichols, Jr.

Red Nichols, 81, of Boone Trail in North Wilkesboro, NC, widower of Betty Lackey Nichols, died Saturday, 10 March 2007, at Avante at Wilkesboro. Mr Nichols as born 13 Jan 1926 in Wilkes County to John Milton and Nell McLean Nichols. He was retired from Sig's Wholesale Tires. Red was a member of Union United Methodist Church and Liberty Masonic Lodge #45. He was retired from Cricket Volunteer Fire Department and a WWII Veteran. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Hale of Millers Creek and a son, Rex (Linda) Nichols of Boomer and four grandchildren. Masonic Rites were offered at Union Methodist (formerly Friendship) Church Cementery.

William Hermon Campbell

Hermon Campbell, 85, of Harmony, NC passed away 21 April 2007 at Davis Hospital in Statesville, NC. Born 28 Sep 1921 in Iredell County, NC to John William Columbus and Frankie Olivia West Campbell, he was the oldest of six children.He was educated at Glum Grove and Harmony Schools joining his father as a mechanic after leaving formal education. He served with the 56th SeaBee Battalion in the South Pacific during WWII being discharged as a Machinist Mate First Class.He loved Cars, Trucks and tractors. After returning from the Navy in 1945, he worked again as a mechanic for ten years and then drove a truck until 1967 when he left public work to farm a do a little fishing. He enjoyed his garden and was working on this year's when his health failed.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther Gaither Campbell (married 24 Dec 1941), two sons, William Jerry (Frances) Campbell, Larry Milton (Pat) Campbell, a daughter Joyce Campbell (Hal Jr) Dobson, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren , two brothers, Glenn (Lib) Campbell, John Ray (Carolyn) Campbell, two sisters, Dorothy Lee (Jimmy) Bray and Marianna (Bill) Miller. Burial was at Clarksbury United Methodist Church, Harmony, NC. Memorials may be made to the cemetery fund.

Sarah Gaither

Sarah Gaither, 30 , of Louisville, KY, died 8 Dec 2006. The daughter of Randy and Ninette Gaither, she is survived by a brother Matt, grandfathers, Ralph Gaither and Elwood Gifford. Memorial may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

 

Bonnie Ruth Vetor Gaither and Robert M Gaither

Roberta Hoheimer has relayed the passing of her parents, Bonnie and Robert Gaither. Robert passed away in 1997 at t he age of 82 and Bonnie died 5 Aug 2006 at the age of 90. They made their home in Fairmount, IN. They were members of the Society, decsending from Zachariah of Benjamin III and parents of six children.

 

David Lawrence Gaither

Statesville Resident Lawrence Gaither, 86, died Saturday, 12 Aug 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born 7 June 1920 in Davie County to Guy and Elsie Richardson Gaither. A WWII Navy veteran, he was a Baptist and retired from the Statesville Record and Landmark.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Long Gaither whom he married 18 Nov 1989, a daughter, Patricia Beech of Springfield, VA, a son Mike Gaither of Wilkes Barre, PA, a brother, Edward Gaither and seven grandchildren

Eva Kathleen Emery Doty

Nashville, IN resident Eva Doty died Saturday, 28 Oct 2006. She was 101.

A 1927 graduate of Indiana University, she had taught French in Bloomington High School . Mrs Doty moved to Brown County in 1993 to be near family as she aged. She joined the Nashville Christian Church.

Eva was born 2 Sep 1905 to Charles Richard Emery and Lura Bell Mitchell Emery. On Christmas Eve 1934 she married Roy Bouten Doty.Roy was a descendant of Edward Doty who came to America on the Mayflower in 1621. She died of congestive heart failure.

Jesse Jewel Ater Sessums Mrs Jesse Jewel Ater Sessums passed away 25 December 2005 of a massive heart attack.

Mrs. Sessums was born 2 Febuary 1925 in Wortham, Texas to Jesse J. and Nora Bell Johnson Ater. On 22 October 1945 she married Ernest A. Sessums, Jr. in Longview, Texas. They had two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James R. Keesling James R. Keesling died Sunday, 12 March 2006 at St John's Medical Center in Pendleton, IN.

Mr Keesling was a life long resident of Pendleton, IN. He was a mechanist at Delco Remy Division of GM for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He was a life long farmer and avid woodworker. A 1939 graduate of Pendleton High Scholl he graduated from Ohio Mechanics Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a WWII veteran having served in Europe. He was a member of Pendleton Christian Church, American Legion post 117, Madison Masonic Lodge 44 F&AM , Pendleton Historical Museum and the Society of John Gaither Descendants.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virginia (Gaither) Keesling, duaghters, Bonnie (Tom) Mozingo of Florida, Baana Barker of California and Jana Keesling of Pendleton: son, James M. (Stephanie) Keesling of Texas; sisters Jeanette Snider of Anderson and Norma (Larry) Gardner of Pendleton; grandchildren, Laura (Rick) McFee, Andy (Donna) Mozingo, Tammy (Tom) Whitesell and Tracy (Steve) Callison; great grand children, Ian and Kailee Wiesner, Trevor, Trista and Tecia Whitesell, Nathan Mosier, Harrison McIsaac, Cailyn Callison and Alex McFee; several neices and nephews and coousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Nellie (House) Keesling and his first wife, Araetta.

Janet Lynn Hanny Janet Lynn Hanny, 71, of Prescott, AZ, entered into rest 16 March 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Hanny was born 1 May 1934, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Cline) Ryan.

She was a member of the Prescott Memorial Ladies, The Yavapai Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Northern Arizona Genealogy , The Scottsdale Theater for Children and the Scottsdale Junior League. Janet was a substitute teacher for the Scottsdale School District from1980 to 1995 and then for the Prescott School District from 1995 to 1998.

Survivors include her husband, Jack;her children, Christine Will, of Mesa AZ, Victor (Pam) Hanny of Mesa, AZ, Catherine (Steve) Parker of Prescott, AZ, Elizabeth (Cliff) Schiller of Casa Grande, AZ and Kimball (Susan) Hanny of Gunnison, CO; her sister, Kathleen DuBois of Springfield. IL; her brothers, Danny (Pam) Ryan of Showlow, AZ and Roger Ryan of Springfield, IL; 12 grandchildren, Catherine, Sean, Alysia, Justin, Kristin, Brandon, Thomas, Edward, Ryan, Brendan, Griffin, and Marcus; and one great-grandson, Andrew.

Peggie L.Ertle Peggie L. Ertle, 63, Alexandria, IN, died 23 March 2006. Cancer took her earthly body at her residence and God took her eternal soul to be with him.She was born 12 November 1942, in Alexandria, the daughter of Arden and Grace Newcomb Gaither.

Peggie was a graduate of Alexanderia High School Class of 1960. She attended the Indiana Business College in Anderson. She had worked at Ram Graphics and Gaither Music Company, both of Alexandria. She was a member of North Anderson Church of God where she belonged to the knitting group. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Peggie was an accomplished seamtress and was skilled in knitting and quilting. She used her knitting as a form of ministry by making and sending more than 1500 knitted blankets to Russia and Kenya. She also helped make and furnish knitted caps to newborns at St.John's Medical Center in Anderson. She also made over 50 baby quilts for the newborns of family and friends. She enjoyed scrapbooking and custom card making. Peggie's first priority has always been to her family. God has woven a beautiful tapestry using Peggie's life as a golden thread weaving through the lives of those she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick" Ertle, whom she married 23 March 1962; daughter Amy (Gene) Wood of Arcadia; son, Andy (Terri) Ertle of Anderson; father, Arden Gaither of Alexandria; grandchildren, Lauren Ertle, Brittany Ertle, and Dillon Wood; and numerous cousins and family members.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother- Ted Gaither; and a grandson, Christopher "CJ" Ertle.

Gaither William Merrill Gaither William Merrill passed away on 25 Feb 2006, at Midland Memorial Hospital of congestive heart failure and complications. Gaither was the son of George and Flora Merrill of Fort Davis and the grandson of Jessie and Emily Merrill, pioneers of Jeff Davis county and great-grandson of Mattie Belle Anderson for whom the Fort Davis School was named.

Gaither was born 12 June 1933 in Buffalo, NY, attended high school in Fort Davis and graduated from Tinney High School in Comfort, Texas. He later attended Texas Western College (now UTEP), where he earned a bachelor's degree. At various points in life, Gaither held accounting positions with El Paso Natural Gas, General Electric Credit Corporation, and Shakley Sporting Goods. He married Carol Thompson of El Paso in 1966. They lived in El Paso, Tulsa, OK, New Braunfels and Albuquerque during their marriage. While living in New Braunfels, their son, William Gaither Merrill was born. Carol died in 1983.

Survivors include a brother, Martin Merrill and his wife Lee Arthur Merrill of Marfa and El Paso : his son William Gaither Merrill of New Waverly, TX; his nephew Merrill aand his wife Sylvia and son Adrian of Washington, DC.

Graveside rites were held Wednesday, 1 Mar 2006 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Davis.
