Greetings to all! It finally looks like the contracts, dates and details for the 26th Annual Meeting for the Society of John Gaither Descendants have been worked out. Here is what we have done.
We will be at the Drawbridge Inn and Conference Center in Fort Mitchell, KY. Room rates are $80 plus 11.24% tax for single , double, triple or quadruple occupany. This includes plated breakfast for up to four people per room in Chauser's Coffee Shop. The rates are good for three days before and after the meeting. Room reservations should be made by calling 1-800-354-9793, identifying yourself as with the Gaither Group then providing a credit card guarantee for the first night's deposit. (Credit card imprint required at check-in). Reservations must be received by 13 May 2008 to ensure room availability. Check-in after 4 pm- checkout no later than 11 am. Baggage storage is available at no charge. THe hotel provides regularly scheduled airport transportation for hotel guests on a complimentary basis. The Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport is served by American, United, US Airways, Continental, and Delta airlines.
We will have a hospitality suite for the evening of 6/12 and 6/13 and the morning of 6/14. (We will supply all snack and beverage items for the room, the hotel will supply the ice)
There will be a bus tour and Aquarium visit on Friday June 13th. The schedule is as follows;
9:30 am Bus departs from Drawbridge Inn and Conference Center for Covington, KY
9:45 am Pickup tour guide for "Cities On Tour" drive featuring a historical lecture en route through Kentucky riverfront towns, old riverboat captains' homes and Civil War underground railroad sites before crossing the Ohio River into downtown Cincinnati. See the city vista from atop Mount Aedams (often referred to as a "mini San Francisco") , then view Eden Park, Fountain Square, the Proctor and Gamble corporate headquarters, Taft Museum, the mural of Cincinnatus, and more. We will have a rest stop (and maybe an ice cream break at an old fashion parlor) at Union Terminal-- a magnificent restored remembrance of the glory of railroad travel.
12:00 pm Arrivge at Newport (KY) Aquarium and Newport-on-the-Levee for a self-guided aquarium visit (admisssion included in tour cost) and break for shopping, browsing, and lunch on your own at the Levee, a 10 acre complex of restaurants, shops, boutiques and entertainment. The Aquarium is a 100,000 square foot, 1 million gallon exhibit in a world class architecturally impressive structure featuring state-of-the-art lighting, textures, and underwater tunneling- plus performance shows by animals and divers.
2:00 pm Board the bus for return to the Drawbridge.
The Hotel will cater a banquet buffet on Friday evening consisting of:
Sliced Sirlion of Beef with mushroom Gravy
Smothered Chicken Breast with cheese sauce
Tossed and Caesar salad
Two sides, carrot cake and beverage
The banquet program will feature Tom Gaither- an artisit, local art gallery owner, and Society member- who will discuss his work in painting and provide a watercolor demonstration. Tom's works are displayed at many sites in the Kentucky/Ohio area.
The annual meeting will take place in the hotel Saturday morning. We have reports from the board of directors, officers and projects, election of officers and our normal proceedings. Don't forget the gift exchange. THese gifts are supposed to represent your home area and be in the five to ten dollar range. Homemade items are very much prized!!!
Luncheon at the hotel will conclude our meeting. The menu is as follows:
Deli Buffet
Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Cheeses
Breads, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Condiments
Two Salads
Chips, Cookies Beverages
Please register early!! Space may be limited due to bus capacity.
Please specify any dietary restriction for the banquet for which the hotel will try to accommodate. Vegetarians, a non-meat Lasagna can be provided in lieu of the entrees if requested.
